Success Ingredient-Power of ‘Positive Thinking"
This past Monday marked the 114th Boston Marathon. Each year thousands of individuals test their strength and commitment to accomplish a task that without proper preparation and inner strength could not be done. One of the most important aspects of accomplishing such a feat is having a positive mental attitude.
If you think about it life itself, is very much a marathon. We are all blessed and given a chance at creating our own life. So this week, I want to talk about the importance of incorporating the power of positive thinking.
Positive Thinking, Positive Attitude and Positive Self-Talk is all about allowing yourself to think about the good in future outcomes, finding the silver lining in troubled times and not allowing negative thoughts corrupt situations that didn’t meet your expectations.
Positive thinking is extremely powerful. Why? Because our thoughts lead to our feelings and beliefs that shape our world, both on a conscious and subconscious basis. If you want to FEEL good you have THINK good.
Thinking positively allows us to accept more good into our lives. We will be able to land the next career opportunity, make better connections professional and personally as well as become a much more well rounded person.
Since much of our attitudes are shaped from outside influences which include our upbringing, the friends we surround ourselves with, society and environment we spend time in. We may not even realize that we are continuously looking at things from a negative perspective.
However, the wonderful thing is, WE ARE in control of our thoughts. We CAN make conscious and subconscious choices to think positively instead of negatively.
So tips this week to begin incorporating positive thinking into your life.
1. Change your inner conversations, your inner voice to only make positive statements. Don’t take yourself so seriously. Laugh at yourself when you make a mistakes. We are human and we do make mistakes and aren’t perfect.
2. Always visualize only favorable and beneficial future situations. Prior to doing any task, event or meeting I typically spend a moment or two simply visualizing how I want the outcome to be from a favorable perspective. Then I surrender, meaning I don’t have too much attachment to it because I don’t want the feeling of being let down.
3. Make a list of a couple positive affirmations for things you want in your life and say them on a daily basis in the mirror. This will help change your subconscious believe system.
4. Surround yourself with positive people, avoid toxic environments. They say we are an average of the 5 people we hang out the most. Do the math, where do you fit in?
5. Get exercise and eat well. Studies show that your mental attitude is greatly affected by the amount of exercise and the types of food we eat so this tip shouldn’t be a surprise.
6. De-Clutter your house, office, garage. Your outer world is a reflection of your inner world. Sometimes in order to make us feel a bit better we have to give the outer world a little kick. De-clutter and organizing is a great way to allow comfort and ease into your life which helps us have a more positive attitude.
7. Be grateful for the aspects in your life that you have. Acknowledging the good in your life will allow you to attract more good. This works well when you are dealing with a relationship, acknowledge your partner, friend when they do something you really like. They will do more of it.
8. Live in the present moment, avoid worrying about the future and feeling guilty about the past. The only moment that really counts is this very moment so live it!
